Manufacturer: Cipla, India
Pharmaceutical name: Piroxicam
Pack: 10 pills (20 mg)
Pirox is prescribed to alleviate pain, swelling, and stiffness in joints caused by arthritis. It falls under the category of medications known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Pirox functions by lowering the levels of hormones that lead to inflammation and discomfort in the body. However, Pirox may elevate the risk of severe cardiovascular issues, such as heart attacks or strokes.
Administer Pirox orally as directed by your physician, typically once a day with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters). Avoid lying down for at least 10 minutes after taking the medication. To minimize stomach irritation, consider taking Pirox with food, milk, or an antacid.
Your dosage is determined by your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. To lessen the chances of stomach bleeding and other potential side effects, use Pirox at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Do not increase your dosage, take it more frequently, or extend the treatment period beyond what your doctor has prescribed.
If you are using Pirox "as needed" (rather than on a fixed schedule), keep in mind that pain relief medications are most effective when taken at the initial signs of pain. Waiting until the pain intensifies may reduce Pirox's effectiveness. It may take several weeks of consistent use of Pirox to experience its full benefits. Inform your doctor if your condition does not show improvement or worsens.
Side Effects: Possible side effects include stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, or headache. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, promptly consult your doctor or pharmacist. There is a rare possibility of Pirox leading to serious liver issues. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any signs of liver damage, such as dark urine, ongoing nausea/vomiting/loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or yellowing of the eyes/skin. A very severe allergic reaction to Pirox is uncommon.
